The Hobbit – Desolation of Smaug

MrSeb posting again I imagine you say, well yes I have been moved to type once more before the new year moves in after watching the second instalment of Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit’ – ‘The Desolation of Smaug’…

I have to say that I really enjoyed the film, which was pretty much non stop action from the very start, with Thorin and company being chased down by a huge bear, fighting gigantic spiders, getting captured by and then escaping from the Wood Elves, topped of with a breath taking barrell ride come skirmish with a determined Orc pack that never tires of hunting the dwarfs along their journey.

However good as it was, there were a few points that grated with my traditionalist nature.

There appears to be a love interest developing between an Elf and a Dwarf, Tauriel and Kili have taken a liking to each other, which does not bode well if you have read the book and know what fate awaits the dwarf. I’m not sure where exactly they can go with this part of the story. I was not too keen on the morgal blade element of this story either

And the fracturing of Thorin and Company, where four of the party are left at Esgaroth (the lake town). It did not sit well with me, but I am sure that it will all come together in the end, this is after all just Peter Jackson’s and Guillermo del Torro’s version of Tolkien’s world, It has certainly left me wanting more and waiting impatiently for ‘The Hobbit – There and Back again’ to be released’.

In conclusion it brings me to ask the role has been played a few times now, who is your favourite Bilbo?

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
