Empire of Dust: Update

Hello MoDers,

I’m taking advice a making some smaller posts that hopefully won’t be interrupted by my Anxiety based Apathy.

I have manged to paint a few more minis for my ‘Kings of War’ ‘Empire of Dust’ army, completeing a ‘Bone Dragon’, a regiment of ‘Scavengers’ and a regiment of ‘Skeleton Archers’:

Bone Dragon:

I like to view the ‘Empire of Dust’ as different to the regular Vampire/Necromancer lead armies of death. I see this not just through the visual differences as portrayed by the individual minis, but in things such as motivation, composition, Fluff I suppose. I tend to class the two factions as Wet (Zombies, ghouls etc), and dry (Skeletons, mummies etc), to show this I wanted my Bone Dragon to be just that, a ‘Bone’ dragon. The market seems swamped with zombie dragon sculpts, so I turned to ‘Reaper Miniatures’, who produce a lovely sculpt that met my requirement almost exactly. It is not as huge like some of the new minis being used in games these days, but is equivalent to monsters I already have in my army. There is still some membrane between the bones within the wings, I was going to remove this, but then I decided to keep it so that I could use a different colour to contrast with the beige. Given my army colours I went with blue, to keep things uniform:

Scavengers:

I believe that these are carrion creatures that follow the army around and pick flesh from the the bones of vanquished enemies. To represent this I decided to use some old ‘GW’ sculpted ‘Terra-dons’, with a back story that they had been part of an invading army of ‘Salamanders’ which had been defeated, and the survivors forced to retreat through scorching desert. This unit of ‘Sky-raiders’ went mad in the heat and turned upon their riders before succumbing to the influence of the cursed priests. With these again to match my army colour scheme and that of the ‘Bone Dragon’ which I had hoped they would work in unison with, I turned to shades of beige and blue:

Archers:

They are not great marksmen, the undead, but sometime your melee troops need some support. I needed another unit and some some ‘Khemri’ arches I bought from Ebay, I just needed to revitalise their old paint scheme and base:

On 22nd June I went to ‘Hemel Hempstead’ to take part in the ‘Kings of Herts’ School Fundraiser, doubles tournament. There was some improvement in my results so far as we did not come last, and I was not tabled in any of the games. I do hope at some point to get at least one victory for either my ‘Rhordians’ or ‘Empire of Dust’, but as my tourney partner ‘Mark’ was saying, the most important thing, especially with these doubles tournaments is to have a good laugh, and he is right. Here’s some photos of the games:
